Thanks to you, we did it.

To my family, thank you. To my friends, thank you. To our volunteers, supporters, and campaign team, thank you for all of your hard work over the past several weeks. We knocked on thousands of doors and distributed literature to households in every voting district in every city throughout the most densely populated legislative district in the state.

I am especially proud that we ran a clean, issue-oriented campaign. Our message resonated, and our hard work paid off. With approximately 95% of the precincts reporting, my Assembly running mate - Carmelo Garcia - garnered 46% and I won with 42% of the vote. Opponent Peter Basso received 6%, and the other three challengers received 2% or less.

I thank the other candidates for sharing many of our progressive views and for their participation in the democratic process. I will work hard to earn the trust and support of every Democrat who voted for another candidate in yesterday’s primary election. And if elected, Carmelo and I will strive to represent the constituents of the 33rd as ably and zealously in the Assembly as the inspirational Brian Stack has in the Senate.

Senator Stack, Carmelo, and I will take a couple of days to relax, and so should you. Then, we must resume working tirelessly to prepare for the general election on Tuesday, November 5.

Many of you know that my family has been coping with the devastating loss of my father to a brainstem stroke in March, shortly before my decision to run for the State Legislature. To my brothers and the most incredible woman I know, my mother, I love you, and this one’s for Daddy.

Thanks again.

Best regards,
Raj
